june writing challenge day 30

skipping grades

(inspired by my piano student)

i am only 7 years old

and i am in grade 2

but i can read and write at a 4th grade level.

i've memorized my times tables

forward and backward up to 20.

i can identify every country on the globe

i can list each of their capitals

and one major historic event that occured there.

i won first place at the science fair

and my project was featured in a physics magazine.

i am only 10 years old,

and i've heard of kids skipping grades;

i wish i could, but i'd have to learn to draw.

kids who skip grades are really talented.

they can memorize lines to plays

play a D scale on the piano with both hands

and they're always picked first in gym.

if i could only draw

then i'd be eligible to skip a grade.

but for now i'll stay in grade 2.
