ode to strangers

i think i just really like people;

someone laughing to themself at a joke a bystander wouldn't understand,

bits of kind graffiti with affirmations of worth left in bathroom stalls,

the politeness parlay of holding the door for another, who rushes forward just a little bit more so that they aren't stuck holding the door for too long,

a busker playing, and sheer aw gathering a bustling crowd of curiosity,

the universal language of handing someone your phone so they'll take a picture of you, no questions asked,

a stranger's item unknowingly dropped and the urgency of pointing it out, regardless of the perceived value of that item,

the comments section of a youtube guided meditation, which is always filled with fellow insomniacs expressing love, empathy, and desire for rest.

not everyone, not all the time, and not reliably;

but i think i just really like people.
