★4/5ALBUMS

my most listened to album of 2025 was BGTJ's freshman album Meet Me After Practice, so you can imagine my excitement for this record, and it did NOT disappoint. the album starts off with a bombastic theatrical overture of sorts titled sunshine (never trust anyone named jeanette), which i've hilariously come to learn is the name of one of the members' dad's ex-girlfriend. the album is hypnotic and exciting, stimulating every part of the brain with music theatre, jazz, pop and indie rock influences sprinkled all over. the song wake up layla has been on loop for me, something about the tough love of the lyrics resonates so incredibly.
if you want to hear more from BGTJ about their release, their north american tour and their inspiration, you can listen to me interview them on needle in the hay.
